Creating a Route Issue

Creating a Route Issue

With GeoData version 4.3.0, we have introduced a brand-new issue type - Route. This issue type allows you to create an ordered list of locations to help you organize and track your journey.

Creating a Route

Currently, there are two options for how to create a route.

The first option is to simply create a new issue for which you can manually add waypoints of your journey. Start by clicking on the Create button in Jira’s top bar.

In the Create Issue Dialog, make sure you have selected the right project and an Issue type is set to Route.

If you do not see Route in Issue type dropdown, please make sure a Route issue type is enabled for the selected project.

After that, you should be able to see a custom field similar to GeoData Location field with additional Add stop button at the bottom.

This map allows you to preview created waypoints and provides you a visual representation of your route.

To add new waypoints to your route, click on Add stop button.

This will open you a new modal window where you find different options for how to add a waypoint.

From here, you have some options to choose a location source for your waypoint.

Custom

This allows you to choose an arbitrary location, either by using the Search field or clicking on the exact location you want to choose.

Similar to the GeoData Location search field, you have an input field (marked red) and search results select list (marked blue). The first result from the list is automatically selected, and you will see the selected location on a map below marked with red circle.

Alternatively, you can use a long mouse click on a map to precisely choose a location. As with GeoData Location custom field, this will result in two circles drawn on a map. A Red circle which represents an exact location where you clicked, and a blue circle which represents the closest location translated by Nominatim service.

When you use manual input method, (i.e. long mouse click) you have to either red or blue circle and from pop-up click on Select value. You can also verify the address in the left bottom corner of a modal window.

Currently, we do not support custom display names for locations.

After clicking on Add value in the right bottom corner of a modal window, you will see your newly created waypoint in a list as well as pin on the map.

Issue

This allows you to find and select a location associated with an issue which has filled GeoData Location custom field. When using an issue as a location source, GeoData automatically creates an issue links between a Route issue and every referenced issue.

To find a desired issue, click and open the issue picker field and start typing. You can search either by issue key or by issue Summary field.

As we support multiple location fields in one issue, you have to select the right source for location of waypoint. In the right-most select field, pick a GeoData Location field in which is the location for the issue stored.

Again, after clicking on Add value in the right bottom corner of a modal window, you will see your newly created waypoint in a list as well as pin on the map.

Assets Object

If you are using an Assets objects, we got you covered as well. To reference Assets objects, you have to have a dataset of type Asset. You can find more information about datasets in section …

In the middle select field, you pick a desired dataset. Only datasets of type Asset will appear in this list.

In the right-most select field, you will find a list of Asset objects defined by selected dataset.

Clicking on Add value in the right bottom corner of a modal window, will add a selected Asset object to your route list.

In the current state, GeoData does not support human-readable in Asset objects, so only object title and map pin will appear in route.

Ordering Waypoints

After you add all desired waypoints to your route, you can reorder them using the drag&drop functionality, by clicking and dragging using the drag handle on the left side of each waypoint row.
