Core concepts

On the following page, you will find a description of the main functions of the GeoData for Jira app.

Add location

Do you have critical business locations that need to be tracked? Do you require a designated meeting place for your issues? Or do you need to associate an address with your business? GeoData offers a user-friendly solution that enables you to effortlessly add these significant addresses to both new and existing issues.

Find locations

The GeoData app lets you find your important addresses easily. You can do so either by using the map view, or by searching for the address using GeoData’s search functionality. When using the map view, you can choose to set a specific pinpoint location or use the closest matching address to your marker. This way you can be very specific in case the location of your issue is in an area without an address or if the closest suggested address is too far from the actual issue location.

Edit location

If your business office has relocated or if you need to update the location for a meeting, GeoData makes it easy to modify the address in your issue.

Additionally, you have the ability to change the display name of the address. The display name serves as a convenient nickname for your address, allowing you to assign a descriptive label that captures its purpose.

Notice: Please be aware that in the current version, it is not possible to change the coordinates of an already placed marker. Instead, we recommend creating a new marker in the desired location and removing the old one.

Route Planner

New in version 4.3.0: Introducing Routes

In the latest release, we’re excited to introduce a powerful new concept – Routes. These can be easily created using our newly introduced issue type: Route. A route is defined as a combination of the following elements:

  1. Arbitrary location

  2. Location associated with specific issue

  3. Asset with filled-in location attributes.

Display locations on maps

The easiest way to see locations is to use the app’s map board, which can show locations from all of your Jira issues. Selecting specific datasets and applying filters will help you focus on only the issues you need.

You can also display location on view issue screen by clicking on the display name in Location custom field.

Datasets

Datasets allow you to group objects with some common attributes. For example, you can create a Dataset grouping all issues of a certain type from a Jira project. The contents of a dataset are defined by a JQL query; therefore, you can exactly specify which issues will be included in the dataset.

Thanks to the integration with Assets, you may also define a dataset consisting of Assets objects. Datasets of Assets objects are defined by an AQL query. However, the objects have to contain longitude and latitude attributes.

Filters

Filters allow you to further specify which locations from each Dataset will be displayed on the map. Only the objects matching the selected criteria will have their location shown on the map.
