Creating an Issue with a GeoData Location

Creating an Issue with a GeoData Location

In this section, we’ll show you how to create an issue with a GeoData location.

Click the Create button in Jira’s top bar. This will open the Create Issue window.

After the window is open, verify that your GeoData custom field is set to visible. Click on the Configure Fields button and check your custom field’s checkbox.

This will add the map and other required fields, enabling you to create an issue with a location.

There are two ways in which you can add a new location for your issue:

  • Via the search field

  • By clicking on the map

Via the Seach Field

To find an address you know, type it or a part of it into the Search field and press Enter or click on the magnifying glass button next to the field. This will generate a selection box containing a list of suggested addresses below the search field. If you can’t see the desired address in the list, you can try to repeat the search with a more detailed query.

Select your desired location from the list and click the Add value button to the right of the selection box to add it to your ticket. The added value will be shown under the map — you may change the contents of all its fields, except for the GPS coordinates.

By Clicking on the Map

If you don’t know the address, but know its geographical location, you can look for it on the map.

You can click and drag to move around on the map. To zoom, you can use the + and - buttons on the left side of the map or the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Once you have found your desired location, you will be able to add it to your issue. Hold down your left mouse button for a moment on the location. This will create a red and a blue circle — the red circle is the location you have clicked, the blue one is the closest matching address. Clicking on either circle will display a tooltip with the address data and the Add value button. Clicking this button will add the location to your issue.

Address Information Fields

These fields are automatically populated once you click the Add value button and can be manually edited if necessary. The only exception is the GPS coordinates — if you need to change them, please delete the location and add a new one with the desired coordinates.

After filling out all the issue’s mandatory fields, click on the Create button to save it.

Congratulations, you have successfully created your first issue with a GeoData location.

Creating Multiple Issues

When creating multiple issues via the Quick Create screen, if the Create another checkbox is selected, the locations from the previously created issue will remain pre-populated. This is a feature of Jira software and not within the control of us, the developers of GeoData for Jira.
